‘Un Chien Andalou’ translated from French to ‘An Andalusian Dog’ is a surrealist film about a series of events depicted in a silent form. Written and directed by Luis Bunuel and Salvador Dali. The manor of this film explores and depicts the art movement of surrealism, where thoughts and dreams of the deep mind are depicted through art. Examples of this are Salvador Dali's work, as he is considered one of the first people to make the world of surrealism well known.

The film itself is quite disturbing as we see a graphic scene of a human eye being slit open with a razor blade. It reflects themes such as the passage of time, death, desire, dreams, and the morbid mystery of the human psyche. However, the film is entirely open to the viewer's personal interpretation, and its creators made it clear that meaningful intent did not form part of its script or direction.

Due to the film's disturbing theme and graphic content, it was close to being banned. This led to threats being made towards Bunuel himself about the film's cruel nature. These would haunt him till old age.
