Newstead Abbey Project

Pre-Planning & Initial Ideas
this is the first planning stage of our project. In our group we discussed ideas and different places that we could base our work in. after a long discussion we decided on a idea of forced perspective (the idea of objects appearing bigger or smaller by changing the distance between the viewer and the object), this then led us onto the idea of booknooks (little scenes that will fit into a bookcase and surrounded by books)
Forced Perspective Moodboard & Initial sketches

For our Newstead abbey project. we have been commissioned to make an instalment for various rooms in Newstead abbey based on the theme of Alice in wonderland. the installments will have to be built around the requirements of the abbey. this means that drilling into walls and other damaging fixtures won't be available

First model making

At this stage, the model-making has begun. the first model to be made was the forced perspective-themed model which was going to be the queen of hearts throne room. this was an interesting model to make as this had been the first time that I had ever made a forced perspective model. so this naturally was a learning curve for me.

this is the process of finalising and touching up the final models. This process included adding lights, touchups on paint and hiding necessary elements such as wires and switches. Also, at this stage, we were able to see what the final models would look like with lights and in the right conditions

Final Models

these are all 4 of our finished booknooks. each person in our group contributed towards making and decorating the models. we have experimented with a few visual illusions such as forced perspective and infinite hallways. this in our opinion will make the booknooks more visually interesting and sometimes in hope, make you require a second look.
Reflection
On reflection at the end of this project. This project was one of the most fun projects that I have done so far. This is because it was our first group project which turned out to work well. The ideas that we explored for our commission turned out to be interesting. For example, the idea of forced perspective is a visual illusion I have always wanted to try out, and to have this opportunity was great fun.
The outcomes of what we created. we were really pleased with how they all came out as we each made a model based on a particular scene from Alice in wonderland. this meant that we could put our skills in model-making into the models.
As it was a group project, we talked and collaborated quite a lot about different ideas, which helped develop the models and overall thoughts.

It was a group project because of the ideas we developed and used. It turned out to be a fun project, making the outcome more successful and rewarding.
