Artefact
As one of the components of our skills passport module, we have to create an artefact using the skills we have learned in the skills passport sessions.
The artefact in question is a physical object. this can be totally anything.

At this point, im brainstorming ideas. for a start, I knew I wanted to make something to do with medieval weapons or something like that. Choosing the right period is crucial because the style of weapons changes from period to period.

After a vast amount of thinking, I decided on a Viking style axe. My initial thoughts were to create a sword, but I found it to be a little too compiled when it comes to the hilt and handle, which depending on the style I went for, would take a long time to make.
An axe is a far more simple shape and design for which some parts I can buy ready-made.

These are a few examples of actual medieval axes. It was more common to have a single-bladed axe, but double-bladed axes were used.
in my artefact I will be using a double-bladed design as I find it to be more intresting.

I created some initial sketches to get my ideas and design onto paper. I came up with a few designs, most revolving around the 2-blade design.
after much thought and some more sketches, I finalised my idea of a simple rounded blade design.
