Dune is one of the most famous Science fiction stories of all time. Based on the novel by Frank Herbert, dune follows the young Paul Atreides, the son of the duke Atreides and leader of House Atreides. Who, by the decision of the emperor of the known universe, orders them to move to the planet of Arrakis, where house Harkonen has been for centuries. Jealousy and hunger for power causes the two great houses to collide and fight over Arrakis. Arrakis is also home to spice. A hallucinogen that improves brain power and ability. Spice is one of the most valuable substances in the universe, so whoever controls Arrakis, controls the universe.

The film is directed by Denis Villeneuve. It is the 3rd remake of the story, the last being directed by David Lynch.

Villeneuve’s depiction of the story from the novel is expertly done as the novel is rather large, and it would be impossible to fit it all into two films. To condense it, he only focused on the essential parts of the story, such as the rivalry between the houses and the Bene Gesserit. Villeneuve chose to keep some parts of the story a mystery such as the spacing guild and the emperor himself. This creates a layer of mystery for who is giving the orders that will see the two houses collide. This mystery allows the audience to imagine who the emperor is and why he is doing this. One of the great mysteries is the spacing guild for whom are responsible for interstellar travel. They do this by exposing themselves to spice. In the novel the description of the guild navigators is quite graphic. Keeping them a mystery creates a deeper urge for more within the audience.
